During the course of developing in history ,the construction of Chinese traditional earth houses was influenced by the ideas of traditional ecology and architecture in the mainland. The character of earth house focused on it's "ecological adaptability" to the element and the ability of adjusting measures to local conditions.With all kinds of different living modes, the Chinese traditional earth houses had come to realized harmonious balancebetween the human life and nature, and between the local geographical conditions and the societal production.China has a large population with a vast territory, the difference of weather, resource distribution, custom of inhabitant and economic level among regions is also very large. So, it could not depend on a single method to solve all the problems of Chinese habitation from ancientry to modern time.In modern China which has basically realized industrialization and high-speed economic development, pollution, ecocide, lack of resource have become the most serious problems that we should face. So, the demand of continuable development is more important than any shortdated economic benefits. Use for reference the design of Chinese traditional earth houses, the technology of environmental conservation and economization on energy should be brought into effect in the construction course of modern houses for Chinese peasants. Thereinto,it is one of comparatively effective resolvents that carrying the"ecological alteration" on existent Chinese earth houses which are still in use and improvable. The meaning of "ecological alteration" is that the practice which has a quality of "ecological-compensative design" and a function of reducing the negative interference with nature.Refer to the situation of China, the development of Chinese peasant's house shuold attach most importance to peasant's benefit and environmental conservation.
