The systematic analytical method is used to seek optimum design planning , make logistics , information flow , funds flow in the system reach most reasonable , most effective , most economic disposition, make enterprise obtain most heavy benefit reciprocate with minimum resource investment.This paper, after summarizing and analysing the design method and procedure of automated storage and retrieval system at present, have introduced in detail the definite method of the main parameters of warehouse in the overall design of the automated storage and retrieval system. It has proposed the design method of optimizing standard kit unit(SKU) based on improving the space utilization ratio of the storage, to make the design plan of storage and retrieval system meet the demand of offering the largest capacity of warehouse in certain storage space terms. That has improved the design procedure and method of the automated storage and retrieval system further.The paper have probed into the choice of optimizing the evaluation index of standard kit unit, put forward innovativly the concept of stock equivalence.. Meanwhile, it has carried on theoretic confirmation of putting forward to stock equivalence at rational aspect, explained deep meaning of stock equivalence, provided the computing method.The theory of optimizing design of SKU has been realized by SKU software system. The software obtains the essential design parameters from the window through interactive ways, and dealswith data through the operation of each module inside, and makes policy by itself or makes policy with the designer together, at last, it produces the scheme of three-dimensional automated storage and retrieval system meeting user's requirments, the standard kit unit measurement optimized , size of unit rack and size of rack, and offers and carries on graphic analysis and management to measurement of standard kit unit optimized. Those get rid of the strenuous and dull craft work, improve design efficiency, shorten design cycle, reduce the design cost , make designing quality improved notably.Combining the application of the automated storage and retrieval system for storing spare part and repair piece of the automobile in Military Area Command, the paper introduces SKU software assists designer on carrying on optimizing design of standard kit unit.
