The jib is one of the most important load-carrying parts of cranes and it performs the main operation of the crane—lifting. It is the weakness of strength of the crane structure and its mechanical capability is closely related to the normal operation of the crane, it is easily disabled. The current design can't fully and truly reveal the reliability of jib due to overmany hypothesises and predigestion in the analysis of complex structures. At present, the finite element analysis of jib is only focused on dangerous the working states. Stress and deformation of jib can't be obtained during entire loading conditions and the working states. Using the finite element method (FEM) and the parameterized method we develop the software system of numerical simulation. The overall aims of this work are to simulate the static characteristics of the jib's luffing motion. Based on these calculations, the system is evaluated and the results reveal feasibility of the software. The main contents and results of the paper are as follows:1) The finite element analysis model is established by ANSYS and static analysis is made for the boom and jib under multi loading conditions. Based on the result of the analysis, we verified the strength of the crane, and gave an explicit answer to their question. The magnitudes and positions of deformation and stress under different load have been obtained and they are necessary analysis data for the design of this kind of crawler cranes.2) The software system of Numerical Simulation of Crane's Jib is developed by using the Windows message mechanism, ANSYS internal command-APDL, UIDL and Visual C++. The software system makes fully use of the benefits of objected-oriented programming, such as reusability, easy reconstruction and easy maintenance. The interface of software is friendly and convenient.3) Crane's jib is analyzed in the software system, we obtain the static response results including static stress and simulation animation.
