This paper discusses a new meshing scheme about armor-piercing core and sabot of long rod AP, which adopts the structure of variational tooth clearance. This method is mainly based on the results of numerical calculations in the traditional meshing way, that is ,set up different initial clearance in the touching surface of each tooth, put initial contact while less equivalent stress, set initial clearance while greater stress. In other words, the greater the stress is, the bigger the clearance is, the stress could be balanced while the tooth contact each other in succession. While apply the technique of meshing clearance to the back push type sabot and front push type sabot, we have provided a transient dynamic analysis of this method using ANSYS. Results show that , be compared with the traditional meshing scheme of sabot, after adopting the new scheme, the stress of the dangerous tooth surface of back push sabot can decrease at least 30% and at least 13% of the front push sabot. Also the stress level of each tooth surface tends to be close to the others' while applied the new scheme, such that it can make full use of the intensity of the materials. The achievements of the study in this paper are feasible technical approaches to decrease the disturbance of sabot-discarding of armor piercing projectile and to improve the density of shots. This paper has analysed the influences of the sabot's shape on the meshing clearance's distribution, and provides several typical meshing clearance's distributions of sabot, so it's a good reference to the practical use of meshing clearance. Finally this paper shows that when apply the meshing clearance technique to the design of composite material sabot, after adopting the new method, the stress of the dangerous tooth surface of the composite material sabot can decrease at least 29% and the stress level of each tooth surface tends to be close to the others'. So the meshing clearance technique is a feasible method for the sabot design with the materials of low density and low intensity.
