PFC technology can improve the utilization rate of power supply equipment and reduce harmonic. A 170W AC/DC converter with universal input and fixed output voltage is analyzed and then designed based on TDA16888 in this task.The principle and structure of active power factor corrector (APFC) and TDA16888 is discussed in this paper. The control principle and properties of average current mode control in APFC techniques are analyzed. The applications of APFC technology in the circuit is the boost. The way of fulfillment is presented below : the input voltage is chosen as the reference signal. By tracking this signal, the wave of input current is regulated to be the same as that of input voltage in phase and frequency approximately. Hence, the improving PF and restraining harmonic are reached. Meanwhile, the feedback of output voltage stabilize and smooth the DC output voltage. The advantage of the equipment is that the high PF and low THD can be obtained. The equipment with low weight and little volume can work in the wide spectrum of input voltage.Experiment results show that the APFC can achieve a fixed output of 380V DC voltage in the universal input range of AC 90~270V. The power factor is 0.99, and the performance of this system has many advantages.
