Projection display has been growing up rapidly in the late 1990's. The advantages of projection display are large screen (from 40" to several hundreds inches), high brightness (even more than ten thousands lumen), high contrast and high resolution. As the terminal of projection display, screen is becoming more and more important. This paper is mostly concentrated on the Fresnel Rear Projection Screen.First, the thesis introduces the basic structure of present projection display. It includes light source, light valve illumination optical system, image engine, projection lens and rear projection screen. The contrast of rear projection screen and front projection screen has been done. And some kind of rear projection screens including their advantage and disadvantage excellence and disadvantage at present has been introduced. In addition, some the evaluation methods about the imaging quality of rear projection screen is represented in this part.Second, the thesis proposes a new evaluation method about the imaging quality of rear projection fresnel screen. This method includes two aspects: the objective evaluation method and the subjective evaluation method. Based on the different characteristics between rear projection fresnel screen and other optical system, the objective evaluation method evaluate rear projection fresnel screen by gain, view angle, stray light analysis, moire patterns and OTF. In addition, the subjective evaluation method is analyzed by it's whole flow.Also, the corresponding arithmetical methods to evaluating imaging quality of rear projection fresnel screen is presented. In objective evaluation method, the arithmetical methods of view angle, gain and OTF is thorough researched. And in subjective evaluation method, Analytical Hierarchy Process is used to dealt with the experimental data.In this thesis, some researches are also done in ameliorating imaging quality of rear projection fresnel screen. It includes two parts: one is how to reducing "ghost image". There are three methods: reducing the thickness of fresnel lens, adulteratingscattered particles and plating film on the facets of fresnel lens. The other part is how to reducing moire patterns of rear projection screen.At the end of this thesis, the whole work is summarized and the future research direction is given.
