As people's requirements for highway operational functions become higher and higher, more and more attention has been attached to the comfortableness of automobile traveling on highways.This paper has studied the present situation of comfortableness research, and summarized the former evaluation method and criteria for comfortableness; after analyzing those factors that affect comfortableness, a new method was brought forward to evaluate the comfortableness of highway plane alignment using lateral acceleration and axial travel acceleration. Based on the mechanical condition of the car traveling on curve, a lateral acceleration model is deduced, and a acceleration range about comfortableness is suggested; Then, through calculating the running speed, a axial travel acceleration model was established, along with the evaluation criteria.Finally, the operability and the correctness of the two models have been verified by example. For evaluating highway plane alignment, the comfortableness of shape has certain reference value.
