Deep drawing is an extremely important process for part fabrication and is widely used in automobile, aircraft and other industries. Most workpieces are non-axial symmetry complex shape such as rectangular box in engineering practice, so it has much academic value and significance to study deep drawing for a rectangular box. Blank holder force is one of the most important process variables controlling the sheet forming process for a given tool design. Researches have been carried out all over the world because of its crucial status. In this paper some researches have been carried out on the variable blank-holder force for the case of the deep drawing of the rectangular box by using numerical simulation technology. This paper's main finding is as follows:Analyzing the deformation mechanism of rectangular box drawing, formulating the finite element method of the sheet metal forming, establishing the sheet metal forming finite-element model by using ANSYS/LS-DYNA, studying the effects and impact on the formability of the single-piece blank-holder and segmented blank-holder applying different blank-holder force trajectory were realized. The numerical simulation result indicates that the variable blank-holder force can improve the formability of box deep drawing. In the end of the paper, we proposed the principle of the variable blank-holder force control, established the blank-holder force control system by analyzing the demand of the blank holder force during the process of the deep drawing.The research approach and the result in this paper has some academic value and significance to study deep drawing for a rectangular box.
