This paper introduced the Principle and the Characteristic of this new Capacitor Var Compensation of Thyristor Series Voltage-regulation Application named the improved CKY, and taking the 220kV Weining Transformer Substation as the background, according to the actual situation , elaborated the difference of this installation from the others in use in detail.Reducing the voltage of Thyrister, enhancing the permissible voltage when the installation connects the system directly, and not increasing appurtenances as the same time is the important way of reducing the symthetic cost of reactive power compensator. but the improved CKY can reduce the working voltage and capacitance of Thyrister only with 32 percents assistants installment of reactive power compensator. It can connects the system directly on the voltage from 35kV to 110kV directly, according to the present technique of Thyrister in our country, it can also connects 220kV system directly. And it not only cancel the middle installment that is needed for domestic faster reactive power compensator at present, but also can cancel the third installment in need of 220kV~500kV substations.The synthetic cost of this project is not only lower than domesticfaster reactive power compensator but also impartial with MSC.To display the applicable value and prospect of the improved CKY in full, we takod the the 220kV Weining Transformer Substation as the background and carrier that is a good "stage" .Because the load of the 220kV Weining Transformer Substation is representative.
