This paper discusses the physical properties for the life materials such as the EPS(Expanded polystyrene). Two kinds of tests was made ,the first was the compressive test, the second was Triaxial Test in order to find out the Mechanical performance of the EPS.In this project, in the cases of several density and confinement and un-confinement of the EPS samples the relations of the stress and strain, and the creep performance was discussed. The mechanical deformation properties of the EPS was discussed under the conditions of loading and unloading an the samples. After the Triaxial Tests the relations (σ1— σ3 ) ~εa, εV~εa and (σ1 — σ3) ~εV was analyzed.Based on the engineering of culvert under the embankment of the special high-stacked soil in the freeway from Lanzhou to Haishiwan in Gan su province, the deformation of the EPS was tested. Several tests for several samples with defferent thickness in that location, and the economical, quick and convenient of construction design was analyzed and summarized. It is significant to guide significant research findings that rationally design and construct culvert under high fill embankment.
