The technology of digital assembly simulation is one of the key technologies of the study of digital assembly. This paper presents a kind of UG based digital assembly simulation system, with which a product at a design stage can be pre-assembled through the simulation of assembly process, the course of assembly process can be verified and improved. It can also display the assemblability of the product, therefore, the assembly efficiency of product can be improved and the time and cost of assembly can be reduced.At first, the paper analyzes the assemble function of the main CAD system, presents the function demands of the system, designs the function model of the system, and builds up the total structure and the workflow diagram of the system.Then, the key technologies of the system are emphatically researched. First of all, the structure system of digital assembly modeling and needed information of the system are introduced in brief; secondly, assembly process planning is analyzed, including assembly sequence planning and assembly path planning, among them, especially presents cruxes of the path planning and put forward some solutions; then introduces the realization technology of automation assembly and put forward solutions of some key technologies; then introduces the technology of assembly interference checking and raises a king of algorithm of swift interference checking based on envelops bounding box decomposition, which improves the accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm; in the end, for the purpose of the system developing ,the paper analyses the evaluation technology of the products' assemblability.Finally, the paper introduces the developing process of the system and takes the mechanism of connecting rod and piston in the engine as an example to carry on a verification according to the UG based digital assembly simulation system.
