Virtual Assembly is a rising aspect of assembly domain and has a brightly application perspective. Its research conduces to the development of Virtual Manufacture. This paper makes a deep research in technologies and its application on Virtual Assembly based on aircraft components.The research contents of this paper are as follow:1. This paper studies the product assembly modeling based upon CATIA, introduces two ways to acquire assembly information, and analyzes these advantage and shortage, which supplies the basis for assembly sequence planning.2. After analyzing the actual state of research on assembly sequence planning, this paper presents the technologies of assembly sequence planning based on component recognition and localized explosion. The result of assembly sequence planning is concluded based on aircraft components chosen as the research object.3. The assembly path planning method of trial disassembly based on simulation is presented with CATIA/DMU. This method is used to plan the assembly path of aircraft component and the tools. At the same time, collision detection is carried out to planned path in order to ensure the correctness of the assembly path.4. The assembly operation reachability is evaluated based on ergonomics simulation and application. Finally the checkout of assembly reachability of the aircraft components and the tools is implemented with DELMIA.
