In the modern wars, the light weight composite armor composed with fiber composites and engineering ceramics reaches the requirements of light weight, high protection performance of tanks and military vehicles. So it has a wide applied -prospect. Fiber composites and engineering ceramics are difficult-to-cut materials, so the composite armor is much more difficult to be processed and its application is influenced greatly. Herein, this thesis researches the drilling technology of high capability materials including Kevlar fiber composites, "Kevlar fiber composites/ defended-bullet ceramics/ aluminum alloy" composite armor and "Sandwich" composite armor. In this paper, an economical, practical and effective drilling method for the materials is put forward.Based on analyzing the characteristic of Kevlar fiber composites and engineering ceramics, the diamond trepanning drill is selected, and its structure, making technology and main capability parameters are also researched and ascertained. The removal mechanisms of Kevlar fiber composites and engineering ceramics are analyzed, the machining mechanisms of the two materials with the hot-pressed sintering diamond trepanning drill are researched.Under the condition of the constant feed forces and with regarding the machining efficiency as the major index, the influence regularities of tool parameters and machining technology parameters to machine the Kevlar fiber composites and "Kevlar fiber composites/ defended-bullet ceramics / aluminum alloy" are studied through the single factor tests. Then through the orthogonal tests, the tool parameters and processing technology parameters to machine the Kevlar fiber composites are optimized. According to the material characteristics of the "Sandwich" composite armor, combining the drilling test, the technological parameters of manually machining this composite armor are recommended.
