The City Wall Surrounding Environment, Landscape Design

Beijing Chapter pointed out that globalization of the technology and themode of production had brought the abruption between human and traditionalregional space, and it had brought the decadency of the characteristics of regionalculture, so that the architectural environment in different place had been more andmore similar and the variety of the culture is gradually vanishing. As the symbolismof Nanjing ancient city, can Nanjing City Wall get out of the obsession of thecharacteristic crisis? Can it represent the essence of the characteristic humanism? Canit build the character of Nanjing ancient city successfully? With these questions, thethesis mainly study on the landscape design of Nanjing City Wall and itscircumferential district.In the past, Nanjing City Wall transferred from the simple defending function to thelegacy of the historical culture. During the developing progress of Nanjing city,we should lay emphasis on the conservation of the legacy and the extending of theregional context from all aspects.In the current information times, the regional culture is no doubt one of the bestwitnesses and carriers of excavating regional character, exploring tour and economiccompetition between countries and districts. From the landscape design angle, thisthesis dissertates the characteristic open space of Nanjing——the circumferentialenvironment of Nanjing City Wall. From the history, influential aspects and spaceform of Nanjing City Wall Landscape, this dissertation summarizes the design ideasand the methods in the landscape design, outlines the successes and failures in thelandscape design of Nanjing City Wall and its circumferential district, and putforward strategical suggests from four angles.
