Insulation mortar is synthesized by mixing thermal insulation aggregate with cement, assistant and water in proper proportion, and used as mortar to construct insulation walling work. The aggregate of traditional insulation mortar is pearlite, which has high water absorbing capacity, high brittleness, low bond strength and poor crack resistance, so its application have been restricted in some fields.With popularization of architecture energy-saving technology in our country, insulation mortar new technology has been promoted to developed. Based on the EPS properties of high thermal insulation, thermal stability, crack resistance, discarded EPS powders instead of pearlite are used as aggregate to prepare insulation mortar. This technology is originality innovation for prepare insulation mortar, which can plan a important role on architecture development and innovation of wall materials.The fundamental components of insulation mortar were decided by orthogonal experimental design and mathematical statistics. The factors of modified EPS powders, graduation, powders morphology and added amounts were studied to determined chief and secondary impact factor on the properties of insulation mortar.We can draw some conclusions from the experimental as followings: (1) Compared with the insulation mortar prepared by unmodified EPS, the workability and mechanical property of insulation mortar prepared by modified EPS have been improved obviously. (2) With increasing of modified EPS powders size, the segregation phenomenon of mortar became seriously, water retention, workability and bending strength decreased. So in order to ensure good workability of insulation mortar, the size of EPS powders should be less than 5.0 mm. (3) The workability and adhesive aggregation property of insulation mortar prepared by crushing EPS powders (irregular surface) are better than that of insulation mortar prepared by pre-foaming. (4) With increasing of content of EPS powders, the coefficient of heat conductivity of insulation mortar decreases. But when content of EPS powders increases further more, coefficient...
