The long term separation between land-use planning and transport planning has resulted in the out-of-order dilation and irrational development of town shape. With the advancement of rural urbanization, great importance has been attached to the research on the mutual relationship between land layout and transport system. However, as far as the research content is concerned, most of the former achievements are related to a part of the relationship between land-use planning and transport planning, lack of the overall study on the mutual effect of the two sides. Besides, the study objects of the former research are usually cities instead of small towns. Therefore, taking the development mechanism of town system as the background, this thesis pinpoints the mutual relationship between land layout and transport system of small towns. At first, on the basis of development mechanism of town system, this dissertation analyzes the related factors and theories about the study. As a result of the qualitative analysis of the mechanism and form of the mutual effect, the article draws a conclusion of the mutual effect mechanism that land-use is the origin of traffic demand and transport orients land exploitation in small towns. To make quantitative analysis, the author establishes the space interaction model based on the relationship of land layout and transport system in small towns. Besides, the article introduces the model into CA model, which orients the research method of analyzing the mutual act mechanism of land layout and transport system according to the shape evolution of small towns. Finally, on the basis of the example of Jiuhua town, Jiangsu province, the thesis proves the tight relationship between land-use and transport system.
