With the comprehensive application of high-speed and high-precision cam mechanism, the cam designed and machined by the traditional methods has exposed some problems in the application, such as: the serious friction and wear between the contour and follower of cam, unstable in running, higher noise and so on. The reasons leading to these problems are various. It mainly include: inappropriate follower motion curve, bigger machining error, no smooth contour of cam and so on.Indexing cam is the key part of high-speed rotary labeling machine. This thesis makes a general study of it from the optimal design and precision manufacturing. It include: Firstly, we establish three mathematic models for the three actions of labeling process respectively, and set the minimum deviation between the theoretic track and real one as objective function. Based on them, a whole optimal design algorithm is put forward. In the response to the specificity of gum-picking process, the thesis points out that there is velocity error except for the track error in the process. In order to minimize the error in shape and displacement between the theoretic trace and real one, the parameters of cam is modified by minimizing methods. Using the above design methods, an example is given.Then, according to above mathematical model and the calculated result, the motion-simulated models for the three actions of labeling process are set up and simulated using software ADAMS. By analyzing the motion error, we can verify that the design is reasonable and correct. From the entire simulating model, we can observe that the model is running smoothly without any interference;Lastly, we study the definition and property of Pythagorean Hodograph curve. According to the character of PH curve, we apply the PH curve in the designing and manufacturing of high-speed and high accuracy indexing cam. The Hermite interpolated PH curve is used to fit the cam profile. The numeric control interpolating, the node's calculation and NC programming of PH curve are discussed.
