This paper has developed a wide V-belt Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which can be widely used in automatic machines for speed shifting. The device is made of driving pulley, driven pulley, wide V-belt, spring and other parts. With a simple structure, the device is easy to maintain and therefore of high practical value. This paper systematically introduces the development of mechanical CVT at home and aboard, introduces and analyzes the basic structure and transmission theory of CVT in detail and deduces some kinematics formulas of CVT. According to the Euler’s formula of flat belt, this paper deduces the Euler’s formula that can be used in V-belt CVT, and also gets the calculation formula of equivalent coefficient of friction and axial force on the driving pulley and driven pulley. The paper has completed the 3D model drawing and design calculation of wide V-belt CVT, and used virtual prototype technology to make kinematically and dynamically simulate analyses under three conditions for wide V-belt CVT to get its property parameters in all aspects. The paper also conducts a deep research in the theory and method of co-simulation for flexible body and rigid body, introduces some common methods for flexible body simulation, focusing on the flexibility method for V-belt.The paper has used the latest virtual prototype technology software Recurdyn and FEA software ANSYS to complete the V-belt flexible body co-simulation, successfully completed the rigid and flexible coupling complex system, and analyzed the simulation results of CVT under various kinds of working conditions. The paper has used the ABAQUS, which is specially designed for nonlinear analysis, to do FEA analysis and module analysis, focusing on the vibration displacement properties of quick-wear part V-belt, so as to reduce vibration and noise and extend the working life of wide V-belt. The paper has studied and analyzed the vibration displacement properties of V-belt with modal changes, the vibration displacements in three single directions of XYZ and total vibration displacement of special nodes in both tight and loose sides of V-belt.The research results of this paper can provide theoretical reference and practical guide for the development of wide V-belt CVT in practical engineering. In particular, it applies the rigid and flexibility coupling complex system co-simulation technology and virtual prototype technology into the design and study of wide V-belt CVT and the mechanical equipment respectively. These applications can effectively shorten the research and development cycle and greatly reduce the product development costs, which have great significance in both theory and reality.
