During the past several years, there has been a significant amount of bulk carrier accidents which led to the actions taken by the international classification society (IACS) and International Marine Organization (IMO) to improve the requirement of the bulk carriers uninterruptedly. This article statistic and analysed the shipwreck occurred since 1980, the cause of the most of the accident of bulk carriers is the hull side shell plate and hatch cover and hatch coaming plate invalid which led to the flood of water, and fore part of cargo hold flooded. Generally in the case of the most of the accident of the bulk carrier, the structure design inconsequence was the cause of the accident of bulk carrier. This is why the structure reliability is import in the safety evaluation of bulk carrier structure.Due to the characteristic of the structure of the bulk carriers, this article analysed and investigated the typical structure damage of the bulk carriers, separately analysed and investigated the typical structure damage of the upper deck, cargo hold, top side tank and double bottom tank and bottom side tank which was easy to be damaged in bulk carriers service, in order to take notice and avoid the structure damage of bulk carriers in design, ship newbuliding, ship service and inspection.In this article we also investigated and studied the important factor leading to lose structure integrality which caused structure strength weaken, that is structure member rusted and fatigued, summary the applicability of the rule of the classification soceity related the bulk carrier, expatiate the optimized structure design and influence to the possible accident of bulk carrier, how to control the fatigue strength through the method of improving the structure node , and in the inspection which is the most important item to be taken notice.
