These years, with the rapid increase of the volume of container freight transported, the container terminals has been correspondingly pressured. However, the traditional gate is inefficient and mistakes often, which has gradually made the passing capacity of the traditional gate a bottleneck in the operation of the container terminals. Therefore, it is an urgent problem for special purpose container terminals to improve the passing capacity of the traditional gate.Recently, with the popularization of the EDI technique, and the maturity of some techniques like container number identification OCR technique, truck number identification RFID technique, container inside checking CCTV technique and others concerned, as well as the lower application cost, many container terminals have begun to put forth effort to change the traditional gate into intelligent gate based on above techniques, which has greatly improved the passing capacity of the terminals gate.The intelligent gate well combines RFID, OCR, CCTV, DVR, EDI with the advanced techniques like real time control. According to the operation process, it has centre controlling module to control the individual parts, to identify trunk number and container number automatically, to complete the long-distance check of container body through video frequency, to change the identified and checked information to meet the monitor and operation demand, so as to accomplish the real time alternation of the terminals managing system, to achieve the managing and controlling intelligentization of the container gate.Depending on its advantaged natural conditions and scientifical management, Ningbo Port has a rapid increasement in freight throughput and container throughput, and has the gate bottleneck problem as well. Using the building experience of intelligent gate in other ports for reference, having analyzed the actual situation of Ningbo port, we put forward a designing project of intelligent gate in Ningbo Port. This project designs a new information alternation frame based on the intrinsic EDI information alternation flat roof, remodifies the main gate operation flows, and takes advantage of the automatized data collection and identification technique and industrial controlling technique, thus creating an application mode of changing the traditional gate into unmanned intelligent gate, so as to improve the gate passing capacity.
