With the support of the national initiative “One Belt,One Road”,railway container freight transportation has spotted the development opportunities. The shortcut to improve the competitiveness of railway container freight transportation is to strengthen the transportation efficiency of railway container terminals. How to comprehensively improve railway transportation capacity has became one of the important management problems.Containers cannot be transported directly from the starting point to the destination by means of a single means of transport, and must be transported through the transfer station on the multi-modal networks. At present, the container transferring method adopted by the railway terminals is to first remove the container from the freight trains and temporarily store it in the yard. When the truck to be loaded enters the yard, the corresponding container of the yard is pick up and transported. In this mode, two loading and unloading operations and one temporary storage are inevitably occur, which also leads to problems such as many intermediate links in container transportation, low transportation efficiency, and long time.If follow-up vehicles cannot enter the yard on time,it may also occur the rehandling operation to further extend the container's station time.Based on the characteristics of container flow and railway terminals transfer operation, this paper analyzes the actual transfer operation of the railway container terminals, and considers the inevitable stacking, temporary storage and tumbling operations caused by the timely processing of some containers.Based on the idea of synchronized transferring,is formulated and the breakout local search algorithm is used to solve it;the proposed methods are applied to railway terminals with multi-modal transport. This article mainly starts from the following aspects:(1)The literature review related optimization methods of container transportation, and analyses the scheduling optimization research on container transportation in recent years was discussed.Based on the comparison of multimodal transportation operation procedures, the future research directions was summarized.(2)For the existing railway container station transshipment operation, the synchronized transfer scheduling mode is adopted for single transportation mode. And the mixed integer programming model is established with the goal of maximizing the number of synchronously translating container boxes, and the earliest entry of the freight trains is fully considered in the model. The constraint of leaving the yard time at the latest is solved using the beam search algorithm.(3)After analyzing the properties of the problem.Breakout local search algorithm is proposed, which can adaptively change the disturbance amplitude and disturbance type to ensure jump out of the current optimal solution to get a higher quality scheduling solution faster.(4)In order to fully consider the actual situation of the container transfer operation of the railway terminals,a multi-modal mathematical model based on synchronized transport is established.Based on the characteristics and constraints of various modes of transport in the model, and the breakout local search algorithm is improved and heuristic rules is designed to generate the initial solution. Finally numerical experiments are performed to evaluate the performe of the proposed algorithm.
