With the rapid development of modern communication and electronic technology, the demand for the recharge battery increases sharply. Among different kinds of recharge batteries, the Lead-acid battery plays special important rule due to its cheap price and good performance. And thus it is in the leading position in the recharge-batteries and occupies about 72% of the recharge-battery market. Its market prospect is very wide.The wide application of the recharge-battery makes requests for supports of charging technology and integrated charging chips. The challenge of charging chip design focuses on fast, effective, accurate and safe charging of recharge-batteries and extension of life and charging capacity of the recharge-battery, which attracts great attentions of Chinese integrated circuit (IC) design industry.The thesis introduced the development of modern power electronics and IC technology as well as the basic conception of the charging principles of the Lead-acid battery. Over reviewing the development of charge integrated circuit of the Lead-acid battery, a novel Lead-acid battery charging chip was proposed, which is featuring the current-voltage double loop control mode and four state charging process. And the buck converter was adopted in the design. Thus the chip has simple circuit configuration, high efficiency and small volume. Thermal protection function was added to guarantee its safe and reliable operation under variable ambient conditions.The circuit design of some key modulus as well as the system design was given in this thesis. The chip was designed in 1.5μm BCD process and simulated by SpectreS. The results of simulation showed that its performances were consisted with expectations well. Besides the design of chip, the typical application was given for practical applications.
