Although the traditional fuel automotive technology has already developed very mature,it is still can not completely solve the problems of fuel consumption and pollution. Innowadays, energy saving and environmental protection are the mainstream of socialdevelopment. The lead-acid battery as a power storage element has been widely used, alongwith electric car emerged and got rapid development in such a background, but the chargingproblem has been the key that limits the progress of lead-acid battery. Therefore, the mainpurpose of this research is to design a safe, efficient and fast charging device.Firstly, this paper introduces the existing methods for charging the battery and thecharging devices as well as their respective advantages and disadvantages in detail, and thenon the basis of the battery’s working principle and characteristics, seriously considering theproblems that may occur during the process of charging, this article puts forward a novel typeof fast charging strategy.Secondly, according to the functional and technical requirements of the system, thispaper determines the overall scheme, including the power circuit and control mode. After that,the hardware and software are designed, hardware mainly consists of the main circuit andcontrol circuit, the main circuit adopts switching power supply technology, the three-phaseuncontrolled rectifier circuit and buck chopper circuit are contained. The C8051F410is thecore to the control circuit, including the driver protection circuit for power switch tube,information collection and detection module as well as display module. Software designincludes fast charging module, PI regulator subroutine module, data acquisition andconversion program, filtering module, judgment module and so on.The last but one, in addition to establishing the charge and discharge circuit as well asbattery model, this paper also completes simulation platform for the entire charging system totest its performance and verify the feasibility of the proposed fast charging method, andwhether the charging device satisfies the requirements.At last, in order to validate the feasibility of the proposed charging method, the batterycharging and discharging experiment is performed.
