Since liner shipping is a capital-intensive industry, the liner companies had invested large sums on vessels and containers. With the current fiercely competitive, market freight rates cannot be increased, and it is costly to reposition empty containers due to trade imbalances. Liner companies have difficulty generating reasonable profits and even run deficits. Therefore, shipping company had to build revenue management systems base over the long term decision-making to increase more profits by using slot allocation.Revenue management (RM) can be defined as the same production sell the different price to different customer at duly time to maximize the profitability of a company. Moreover container vessel slot allocation also defined as how effectively to allocate the container slots or spaces on different call at port to maximize revenue. In this paper, related research on revenue management for transportation industries is reviewed. Whereafter a conceptual model for slot allocation of liner shipping revenue management is proposed, and then alanyse the pertinent factors effected the revenue management and slot allocation, and then base slot allocation characteristics of the container vessel transportation, a fixed integer and a stochastic slot allocation model is formulated through mathematical programming to maximize freight contribution, then puts forward the stochastic programming mode in indefinite conditions, try to get the optimal solt allocation decision-making in different conditions. in order to better illustrate this slot allocation model with a case study of a liner route, finally the contrastive study of the two decisions derived from the two models.the following result can be achieved: slot allocation model at stochastic situations for long term revenue management decision-making is more effectively compared to deterministic model. because it made profits more stable and reliability over long term revenue management ,so that. the method...
