With the continuous development of economic globalization and integration, Shipping Industry grows very quickly in the past ten years. Container transportation is becoming one of the fastest growing part of global shipping network. However, since the competition in container shipping market in China is still inadequate specification and the slot allocation is not perfect, the container shipping costs remain high, and sometimes even irrational freight inversion phenomenon, seriously hampered the healthy development of China’s container shipping industry. How to use the advantage of professional transport enterprises, allot space reasonably to meet customer demand and maximize the transportation efficiency, that is crucial to the survival and development of container liner shipping company. So this article is based on revenue management, drawing on domestic and international shipping, aviation and other modes of transport slot allocation on China’s shipping container liner study. The main details are as follows:Firstly, introduce revenue management to the shipping container liner transport industry.Secondly, analyze the factors that affect shipping container liner shipping slot allocation, and divide the demand market of shipping container liner transport industry into contract market and spot market.Thirdly, make different strategies according to different market demand. We can reserve some space for the spot market to meet the needs of customers and sign long-term capacity contracts to protect and improve the loading rate of container ships. On the other hand, we can also reduce the risk of empty tank losses by overbooking. Finally, establish a model of container slot allocation including empty container’s allocation and its algorithm was designed. An empirical study was implemented via a case, and it was validated that the established model and its algorithm are feasible.
