Slot Allocation Model And Control Strategies Based On Revenue Management Theory For Container Shipping Line

After the financial crisis, the liner shipping market is still in recession and the market competition is intense. According to different customer types, how to price the slot space and choose the right booking control strategy, and increasing the economic benefits of liner companies have become the hot topic of liner shipping.Revenue management, as a revenue maximization management skill, has been widely used in air transport, hotel management, and other fields. Applying revenue management to container liner shipping industry is an emerging research topic, and of great significance.In this article it established a slot allocation optimization model. The model is built under the ideal condition of "First come, First service". In this model, it considers transshipment, empty container and heavy container. Then the model is solved by LINGO and gets an optimal value. However, considering random factors in the liner shipping market, the capacity control strategy is applied in optimization model, including booking limits, nested booking limits and bid-price strategy. By considering these strategies, the model transforms into a new model and obtains the result by simulation. At last, this article compares the optimal values under different strategies and gets conclusions.Research results show that:the slot allocation model based on "first come, first service" gets an ideal optimal value. However there are a lot of uncertain factors in the shipping market concrete operation. Considering the uncertain factor, different capacity control strategies can get different optimal solutions. The solution effect depends on the specific situation, and it is in line with the objective situation of shipping market. Using the capacity control strategies are conducive to get the optimal profit of shipping company.
