Adopting Finite element method (FEM) to repeat and research the problem ofactual project, especial for Initiators & Pyrotechnics, because of its destructive test, isavailable to find out a better way to solve problems, retrench human resource anddevice resource, and shorten period of product development also.In this paper, the business Finite element analysis (FEA) soft-ware MSC.Dytranwas used to find out the accurate reasons of failure by simulating test phenomenabrought in union test process of a Initiators & Pyrotechnics and its system, analyzing thecausation of failure. Based on these premises, development and optimization of theInitiators & Pyrotechnics structure are achieved, tests validated the validity of optimalstructure.Based on the characteristic of transient impact loads act on small dimensionInitiators & Pyrotechnics, the software MSC.Dytran with multiple-contact algorithm ofFEA was used as numerical analysis and simulation solver. Operation interface isMSC.Patran, the pre- and postprocessor of MSC.Software Corp..The first step is finishing the physical dissection of the failure Initiators &Pyrotechnics. Then computer was used to repeat failure phenomena, and analyze thecausation of failure. At last, initial condition and boundary condition acquired at secondstep were employed to optimize the Initiators & Pyrotechnics structure, validity to theoptimal structure was also achieved.The main contents are as follows:1. Achieve physical description and analysis by dissecting the failure Initiators &Pyrotechnics structure. Measure configuration dimension of all parts and accessory,quantitative analysis of failure trial is finished at the end. and these will be used ascriteria to evaluate the accuracy of initial condition and boundary condition in FEA.2. Repeat failure phenomena of Initiators & Pyrotechnics on computer, and finishfailure causation analysis of its structure. Then, qualitative analysis is achieved byutilizing the acquired data as stress cloud fig., strain cloud fig. and compare with testresult. 3. Optimize Initiators & Pyrotechnics structure by numerical calculation,simulation of developed structure, and results comparing of calculations and simulationof failure phenomena.4. Produce the optimized structure developed on computer and Validate it by test.
