Automobile engine is not only the source of motive, but also the key components of a vehicle. The basic technical performance of automobile is directly or indirectly linked with the engine performance. The measuring instrument of vehicle engine is a smart device, which can comprehensively and accurately detect and analyze the ignition system, the fueling system, the intaking system, exhausting system and Electrical and electronic components etc. Therefore, the maintenance aspects of the vehicle's engine analyzer occupies a very important position, and has a huge potential market, which has caused many domestic enterprises begun to plunge into the field in recent years.Based on the customer's design requirements, this paper is to develope a front-end system for the measuring instrument of vehicle engine, to complete ignition system of engine, fuel system, and data acquisition and signal extraction and part of the electronic and electrical system, then to transmit the data to generic computer to process and display via USB2.0 interface.According to the overall needs of system designing, the technical scheme of DSP plus FPGA was proposed and adopted ,and the front-end system for the measuring instrument of vehicle engine was successfully achieved, which satisfied all the requirements, and the prototype was timely submitted to the customer. The scheme combines DSP's advantages and FPGA's resulting in a flexible and universal system architecture for DSP is suitable to the field with a complex algorithms'structure, and with high calculation speed, and with a large volume of data required to handle, and with high processing speed, while FPGA is suitable to the occasion where the bottom signal with relatively simple structure is processed. Meanwhile, a modular design method was adopted for designing software and hardware, which greatly shortened the development cycle, and reduced the cost of research and development, and achieved good economic benefit.The whole paper were organized as follows. The paper mainly discussed the detailed way to achieve the front-end system of the measuring instrument of vehicle engine in hardware and software. In terms of hardware, the DSP core processing module, USB2.0 communication module, Oscillographic module of FPGA, and signal processing and power supply modules were discussed for their realization at length. In terms of software, in order to improve the capability of the system for the real-time response, interrupt-driven software architecture was adopted on the whole, and the main program of DSP was designed to realize the functions of initialization and services of interruption by calling the subroutines of the modules. This framework more greatly improve the whole performance of the system than an inquirying one.Finally, the design of the front-end system of car engine analyzer was briefly summarized, and the further improvement was conceived.
