The black box of vehicle (also named vehicle traveling data recorder) is an intelligent device which can be used to monitor various state and data information and record them during traveling. It can offer reliable and accurate scientific basis in order to analyze and judge the device's steering state in dealing with traffic accident. The vehicle video black box system based on ARM and DSP which will be introduced in the article is developed from the previous designs. It can not only record the basic vehicle traveling status such as speed, real time, records of overtime driving, all sorts of switch values which a traditional vehicle black box should record according to the national standard, but also provide video and audio recording function which is the most important feature of the system. The system can circularly record 3-channel video data and 1-channel audio data as well when the traffic accident occurs, and can playback the video and audio data stored in the system. The records of the system including video, audio, and other data, are more persuasion and reliability than that the traditional device can offer in dealing with traffic accidents by tipstaffs. As can be seen from above, the system has a good applicable prospect and it is of significance to develop.The main controller of the system is ARM9 which is good at handling all sorts of events. ARM9 is used to deal with the events and assort with the work of the modules. DSP which is dedicating in image processing, is used as the co-controller (or coprocessor) of the system. DSP takes charge of the processing of video and audio data. The system compresses the 3-channel video data with H.263 compaction algorithm simultaneously, and then stores the compressed data to CF memory card.The whole design of the system is represented from hardware design and software design in the article. The hardware design gives an introduction of hardware composition according to its function modules. In the aspect of software design, some important flow graphs are given to show the main idea of software design. In the end, the article put an emphasis on depicting how to form a valuable sample.
