Railway geological disasters have caused severe influence on railway transportation, people's lives and properties, and national economic developments. with the help of Railways Ministry Research Project (2005F024) "Geological Disasters Risk Evaluation and Corresponding measure of Existing Railway Line", this paper deal with economic losses caused by existing railways' geological disasters. Based on extensively collected and analysis of domestic and international researches on geological disasters, geological investigation in Huaihua section of Zhiliu line and Heyuan section of Beijing-Jiulong line were carried out, and by means of the theory and methods of Engineering Geology, System Science, Disaster Economics, Decision Making Science and Assets Evaluation, studies were performed on the existing railways' geological disasters conception and index system, evaluation principles and models, and classification of existing railways' geological disaster degree. The main research works are as follows. CD Through further studied on evaluation system and calculation method of economic losses of existing railways' geological disasters, the evaluation method of economic losses for existing railways' geological disasters are brought out with taking the enterprise and national economics into account. (2) After investigation the effect of existing railways' geological disasters on transportation, some indexes indicating economic losses degree were analysed, and the gray cluster theory were firstly applied into analysis for economic losses of existing railways' geological disasters, thus the classification way of economic losses of existing railways' geological disasters were established correspondingly with its feasibility tested. The suggested research method is firstly used in domestic railway department, and provided with useful implement for national management of existing railways' geological disasters, the research result can be reference for Ministry of Railways to make decision in resistance and reduction geology disaster, and provide emergency aid and improve risk management of economic losses of existing railways' geological disasters.
