Equipment maintenance is a very important part of power system operation. With the capacity of power system increasing annually and the amount of devices becoming larger and larger, maintenance scheduling manually becomes more and more difficult. The scientific, rational and practical maintenance schedules arranged by computer are helpful to improve the stability of the power system operation and improve the modernization level and profit efficiency of the enterprises.To better define the word "Maintenance", it is proposed that the maintenance process be divided into three lays, i.e. maintenance strategy, maintenance arrangement, and maintenance implementation. The task of the maintenance strategy lay is to determine the equipment maintenance mode, and it is important to make clear the relation between maintenance strategy and maintenance optimization. The research of maintenance strategy is summarized, and maintenance strategy modeling is put forward.According to the rules and considerations which are based and taken into account in the practical work, this paper proposes a new model for distribution maintenance scheduling which intends to find the most security and reliability maintenance schedule without violating and restrictions and also the paper makes a deep research of GA. The proposed model and method are applied to a practical system, and numerical results verify the correctness and validity of them.
