First, the construction should be considered from the height of city and district planning, creating suitable environment from the bigger space with suitable designing of roads system, landscape, and safety service and so on. In this paper, the Affordable Applicable Apartments are introduced from these aspects: intelligent design, kitchen and lavatory design, the architectural physical environment and the indoor air quality.The intelligent design for apartments is the current direction for intelligent design development in architecture field. It can be predicted that in few years, the intelligent design will influence people's life in various ways and provide convenience in depth. The kitchen and lavatory design is to solve some problems that exit in the current apartment designing, such as the noises, inconvenience for repairing, and returning smell from sewers, which can be solved by referencing the available skills such as the same floor drainage and self-protected floor drains.The architectural physical environment is discussed in aspects such as building energy saving, solar energy use and noise control. These problems are tightly connected with the comfort of living as well as required by emission reduction and energy-saving.The indoor air quality control roots from the concept of Health Residence, promoted by WHO, and the Technical Essentials for Construction of Healthy Housing, carried out in China, 2004. The paper will study on it from daylighting, ventilation, sound insulation, thermal insulation and indoor air quality control, which aims at high quality apartments in Shanghai.Besides the affordable and applicable sides, the construction of Affordable Applicable Apartments considers the aging of population as well. Big cities as Beijing and Shanghai, have stepped into aging society, so in the designing of the apartments, Double-generation Living is promoted which is a replying strategy for the aged in China.
