This paper studies the influence of lubricant particles on characteristics of the cylinder liner and piston ring in internal-combustion engine choosing the cylinder liner and piston ring system in internal-combustion engine as study object. Since cylinder liner and piston ring is the key part of the internal-combustion engine, its quality determines the quality of internal-combustion engine, and the loss of friction power of cylinder liner and piston ring is the most important part of power loss in internal-combustion engine, it is meaningful to improve the efficiency of internal-combustion engine that reducing the loss of friction power. Therefore it is significant to improve the reliability and prolong the life of internal-combustion engine that studying the lubrication of the cylinder liner and piston ring deeply forecasting and designing accurately in internal-combustion engine. It is very dangerous to ignore the harm of contamination during the internal-combustion engine working, because the contamination can reduce the quality and capability of lubrication. Foreign particles in the lube is the main factor leading the lubricated characteristic change of cylinder liner and piston ring in internal-combustion engine, and the size and shape of particles are important parameters reflecting the polluting degree of the lubrication. Actually, the density of particles in the lube do not only reflect the polluting degree of lubrication, but also reflect the working conditions of friction pair and afford the information for the analysis of working conditions later. This paper discusses the influence of foreign particles on characteristics of the cylinder liner and piston ring in internal-combustion engine. First, it analyses the main cause of the formation of particles in the lube of friction pair between cylinder liner and piston ring, discusses the description of characteristic parameters for geometric shape, proposes the parameters foe geometric shape mostly corresponding to the true shape of particles, and carries on tests for the parameters for geometric shape applying the software of analyzing micro-image. Moreover, the geometric shape of particles is observed and analyzed based on ferrography.Second, it describes the theory of lubrication and the lubrication for cylinder liner and piston ring in internal-combustion engine. For the purpose of testing study on the lubricated performance of cylinder liner and piston ring, a reciprocating testing machine is designed. Then, testing study on the characteristics influence foreign particles in the lube on the cylinder liner and piston ring in internal-combustion engine. Tests are carried on by changing load, density, temperature and putting different abrasives into the lube.At last, it is studied by analyzing the testing data that the characteristic of lubricating process and the factors influencing lubricating process, especially the characteristics influence foreign particles in the lube on the cylinder liner and piston ring in internal-combustion engine. It enriches tribology theory on the friction pair between cylinder liner and piston ring in the internal-combustion engine and provides theoretical foundation and scientific basis for solving tribology problems on relevant friction pairs in the internal-combustion engine.
