The piston ring and cylinder liner is one of the most important friction pairs ininternal combustion engine, which impacts directly the performance, reliability anddurability of internal combustion engine. Piston ring-cylinder friction pair works insevere environment of high temperature and high pressure. About60%friction lossof internal combustion engine is consumed in piston ring-cylinder liner frictionpairs. The working condition of piston ring-cylinder liner friction pair depends to alarge extent on the lubrication status between piston ring and cylinder. In this paper, funded by the project of National Natural Science Foundation‘Research on the transport mechanism of lubrication oil in the piston group ofinternal combustion engine’, the lubricating oil transport status between piston ringand cylinder liner and its effect on the lubricating performance of pistonring-cylinder liner frictional pair were investigated, which will provide the solidtheoretical basis and method to more accurate analysis of lubricating oil transportin piston ring group and the lubricating analysis of piston ring-cylinder linerfrictional pair. The main content of this paper include following four sections:(1) IntroductionThe research status of the lubrication performance of piston ring-cylinder linerfrictional pair was summarized.(2) Sufficient lubrication analysis of piston rings-cylinder liner of friction pairat different conditionsA multi-cylinder internal combustion engine was taken as the object of study. The multi-dimensional and asperity contact model of piston rings-cylinder linerlubrication was established. The finite difference method combined with SOR wasused to solve the average Reynolds equation in the lubrication analysis of pistonring. The lubrication characteristics of piston ring-cylinder liner friction pair atdifferent working conditions were analyzed.(3) The lubrication analysis of piston rings-cylinder liner frictional pairconsidering the lubricating oil transport status.A multi-cylinder internal combustion engine was taken as the object of study. The model of oil transport between piston ring and cylinder liner was establishedbased on the equation of oil flow and the volume change of the control volume. Thelubrication of piston ring-cylinder liner frictional pair at different oil supplyquantity was analyzed in which the volume of oil at piston ring inlet is determinedby the oil volume of oil on the corresponding location of cylinder liner wall leftbehind by the piston ring at previous stroke. And, the comparison of the lubricatingcharacteristics of piston ring-cylinder liner frictional pair considering oil flow andfull lubrication was carried out. carry on the different film of oil for the piston ringsupply lubricating characteristics, And considering the comparison of thelubricant flow and full lubrication.(4) Summary and prospectThe sufficient lubrication analysis of piston ring-cylinder liner frictional pairand the lubrication analysis of piston ring-cylinder liner frictional pair consideringoil flow were summarized. The lubrication analysis of piston ring-cylinder linerfrictional pair in the future was discussed.
