| Modern fighter is characteristic of supersonic cruise, high maneuver and stealth, which results in high performance hydraulic actuation system. Therefore, hydraulic system shows the trends of high-power, high-pressure and severe operating environment such as higher operating temperature and higher operating pressure. New technique must be developed to overcome the conflict between high-power and small volume.High pressure results in a hydro-seal problem. Due to design restriction to compact product structure, traditional rubber seal can't meet the requirements of product structural seal. On the other hand, severe operating environment such as high temperature, low temperature and etc. may accelerate rubber aging, which may affect performance, life and reliability of the product, as well as, seal failure may result in oil leakage and environmental pollution. Therefore, traditional sealing techniques have gradually inadaptable for modern fighter.This paper describes features and limitations of traditional seal. Taken the hydraulic system of a certain new fighter as an example, machining problems of metallic seal are detailed based on metallic seal technical study and CAE analyses. Experimental verification has been performed to satisfy the static seal requirements of modern fighter.This paper lists several significant design methods and conclusions as the reference to the seal design of hydraulic system. |
