The Red Layer Of Soil - Rock Mixture Engineering Properties And Highway Embankment Stability

The red-beds exists widely in our country, especially in the southwest. In the constructed road in which, sometimes, the red-beds flexible rocks are used as fillings. Through the large numbers of engineering practice, it can be known that cracking and settlement distresses are very severity in the embankment which filled with the red-beds mixture including earth and stone.There are many factors that induce the distress in the red-beds embankment. Among them, the following two are the great. The first one is that the study of the characteristic of the red-beds embankment is incomprehensive; the second one is that the understanding, to the stability of the high embankment and the factor that influences embankment's settlement, is not enough. Through the lab tests, this paper studies the road performance of the red-beds embankment; on the base of those, the stability and settlement of the embankment have been analyzing more, on the base of the using of the brief Bishop method and the finite element method. Thereby, some factors that influence the stability and the settlement of the embankment have been got. At last, through the trail road, the paper also studies the design methods and the construction technics of the embankment.Through the studies in this paper, the road performance of the red-beds embankment and the rules of the stability and the settlement of the embankment have been mastered distinctly; the conclusions obtained from this paper have important leading meaning to the design and the construction of the red-beds embankment.
