Along with the development of economic, the scale of power industry become bigger and bigger, and the every walk of life demand for higher reliability of power system. Even if the short time power cut may cause disadvantage influence. So the effective supervisory control is needed. For the substation is an important part in power system. Safety and reliability are even more important, Especially the fast and exact fault diagnosis for substation is a powerful guarantee for heightening reliability. So it is very necessity and insistent to study new fault diagnosis ways for substation. When substation goes wrong, we need an effective and fast substation fault diagnosis for detecting and eliminating the fault rapidly and insuring the electric power system against the failure. The most important work is to find a fast and exact fault section diagnosis approach. Petri nets are a useful tool for DEDS in modeling and analyzing. It has some characters such as simple model, easy realization and so on. To use it in fault diagnosis field is attracting more and more attention to, Now, Petri nets has been introduced to power system fault diagnosis. This paper mainly does research on transformers, bus and lines on substation components respectively and established a common fault diagnosis Petri nets model. After that, according to the substation components and network topology to establish links of the whole substation fault diagnosis model. The model of the substation fault diagnosis is simple, its physical meaning is clear. Response to the failure of dynamic change network analysis method described by Matrix. It makes reasoning of the fault diagnosis is high-speed, real-time. After simulation, we find that it can increase fault diagnosis speed and veracity. So, it is a suitable method for online application.
