Distribution automation is being improved gradually from nothing. After years of development, it is becoming more and more mature. The early isolated systems like: distribution-dispatch-analog-panel, feeder automation, load management, GIS/SCADA (Geographic Information System/Supervisory Control And Date Acquisition) have been generally integrated into DMS (Distribution Management System) , which has an general dispatch management function. In the meanwhile, lots of advanced applications based on DMS have been well developed. As the demand on power reliability and power quality going up, there is a new demand on DMS.This essay takes the DMS in Shaoxing Electric Power Bureau as an example, after thoroughly analyzed its functions and characteristics, the essay particularly discussed the connection, the channel/information resource sharing and the information consistency; mainly researched into the time-series chaos of supervision and control information as well as error enlargement in the relay protection of power system, automatic fault isolation and reestablishment, caused by unsynchronized timing marks. This essay also proposed a solution: constructing the DMS of the integration of SCADA and GIS in main stations, the integration of the supervision and control of environment information and "remote measuring remote signaling and remote control" in terminals, as well as the synchronized timing marks based on GPS.
