At present the world is faced with an energy crisis, and most of energy is consumed by the motors, so energy saving becomes a major subject inevitably, and the Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) control method gets close attention. Compared to three-phase motor, the single-phase induction motor has simpler structure, lower manufacturing cost and other advantages, as well as single-phase motor is used in many fields, especially in the sector of household appliances, so the single-phase induction motor is used more and more widely. This paper discusses various control methods of single-phase motor, and derived mathematical model of single-phase motor firstly; then the control scheme is simulated by using MATLAB based on space vector PWM control method, and proved the feasibility of this control theory; At the same time the hardware circuit of single inverter was designed based on digital chip, then Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) procedures were compiled by using C language. In this system, we adopted dsPIC30F4011 from Microchip Company as controller, it can not only meet real-time control requirement of the single-phase motor, but also make the hardware circuits simpler. The details of the main circuit, switching power supply circuit, system protection circuit, detection circuit, control circuit and other external circuits are introduced in this article; The software contains main programme,PWM subroutine and fault interruption, and the process is divided into modulars to be correct and transplanted easily. Compared to SPWM control method which is mature currently, SVPWM shows more excellent performance. Experiment proved that we could achieve good result to control single-phase motor by the use of SVPWM.
