As the crucial equipment in running power system, Power-transformer is gets over-heated in substation by long time running and some environmental effects, which may lead to accidents and brings economical loss. Manually-regularly-inspection has been the traditional way to detect the overheating on the transformer, which takes lots of time and labor, and more importantly, by this means it is not easy to find hidden faults promptly. Power transformer overheating fault on-line monitoring system collects the infrared image of the transformer by using thermal infrared imager, with developed online monitoring software system. It can achieve on-line automatic temperature monitoring from time to time, automatic over-temperature alarm and finally realize the unmanned Substation remote monitoring. It saves a great deal of manpower, material, and brings the eventual realization of the change from the traditional planned maintenance to predictable-condition-based maintenance. In this paper, based on the overall structure design of the main on-line monitoring system, we design and develop the power transformer overheating fault on-line monitoring software system. The software system has the following features:(1) Acquire the infrared image data and temperature data generated by thermal infrared imager.(2) In order to prepare follow-up image processing, infrared image format will be converted to BMP format and save the bitmap,(3) Apply the classical image processing algorithm such as gray-scale stretch, median filter, and pseudo-color transformation etc. to process the infrared image, so that the image quality is greatly improved, and based on accurate temperature measurement system, better observation is realized.(4) Realize the temperature measurement display and alarm functions. The system can precisely measure the temperature and compile statistics at any position of the collected image. Multiple overheating-fault-estimating-methods are applied to judge whether the equipment is running properly. Monitoring data is sent to the monitoring center through the LAN, which enables staffs to keep abreast of equipment situation.
