The avionics Integrated Control Unit (ICU) is an important component of the avionics Integrated Display and Control System (IDCS). As the ICU's demand of performance promotion, The AVR mega128 as the core processor of the main processing module becomes the restriction to the ICU's performance promotion. The main processing module needs to use a higher performance processor.At present, the ARM architecture is recognized as the world-leading 32- bits microprocessor architecture in embedded RISC. By analyzing AT91RM9200 processor's technical superiority to AVR mega128, this article proposes the improvement scheme that the ICU's main processing module will be designed by using AT91RM9200.In this article, a main processing module has been designed by utilized AT91RM9200 embedded processor's features and interface resources fully according to the ICU's development request in an avionics project.Firstly, the electric circuit's principle of the design is elaborated to realize the advantage of performance by using AT91RM9200 to design the main processing module. Then the module software composition is designed including the BSP transplant on the hardware platform of AT91RM9200. It's elaborated that the platform's operating system VxWorks brings many advantages to the design of software. Finally the electric circuit's test methods and debug courses are introduced and the test result indicates that it is reliable to take AT91RM9200 as the core processor of the main processing module.The accomplishment result of this main processing module's design shows that the scheme of which AVR mega128 is replaced by AT91RM9200 to design the main processing module is correct. Moreover the AT91RM9200 embedded processor's feature and the circuit designing method can be refered to by the other control modules'design and can be promoted in the other avionics systems.
