Reservoir take a great advantage in flood control&water conservancy Meanwhile,many safe problems appear and become more and more serious. Many reservoirs in our country were constructed in the period of the Great Leap. Most of them are dangerous dams.Many earth and rockfill dams use clay core wall. Most of sand shell have low density and cannot meet criterions that demand relative density greater than 0.8. Many dam are based on sand. These unsettled foundations cannot meet the density demand of criterions too. Because it cannot meet the demand of antiseismic and liquefaction, it endangers the dams.It is effective and economical in the reinforce managements to sand shell and sand layer dumping stone to weigh the dam toe on the upstream of dam. The toe weight length and height are not defined in criterions and design handbooks. Especially with sand layer in dam base, it is strongly demand to be resolved how to determine the size of toe weight in order to ensure the safety and save the investment. If weight size is small, it cannot provide enough antisliding force and pressure stress to sand layer; if weight size is large, it will increase the investment, project period and construction difficulty. In a word, weight design is very important to the safety of earth and rockfill dam.We choose the classical core wall dam of Mushan Reservoir in ShanDong as the object of study. This reservoir is classed to Largeâ…¡in ShanDong. It is 5870 metres in length with core wall dam which is 1000 metres in length. The dam is core wall and sand shell dam. It is 20 metres in the most dam height. Its foundation is classical double base. Sand layer is from 6 to 8 meters in thickness. The density of sand shell and sand layer is smaller than 0.6 that cannot meet the criterions.In order to find feasible, saving and convenient design scheme, we build the equivalent linear elastic model and liquefaction deformation model according to the project characters and bring the research topic forward.
