Main reducer assembly is a key part of automobile transmission system to enhance the torsion and decrease the speed, and its quality is closely related to the working performance of the whole transmission system. Noise and vibration are the most important performance of the main reducer assembly quality. In fact, for hypoid gear transmission, the position, shape and size of the gearing mesh mark are the important performance parameters, and have great influence on the load transfer, stable and muting working of gear. A method to extract series parameters about gearing mesh mark for the transmission characteristics of hypoid gear is introduced in this paper. In combination with the parameters about gearing mesh mark and vibration signals, the comprehensive evaluation of main reducer assembly quality based on multi-parameters is realized.From the transmission characteristics of hypoid gear, related to the structure and function of main reducer, the forming mechanism and the influencing factors of gearing mesh mark are reviewed firstly; In combination with digital image processing technique and morphological image analysis principle, the separation of mesh mark and gear teeth surface is realized lately. Then, the characteristic parameters are extracted. With the mesh mark image acquisition system and the vibration signal detection system, listed the calculation of characteristic parameters for mesh mark and vibration signals is achieved. The multi-description for typical fault is presented from mesh mark and vibration signal .The mesh mark image processing system is established with LabVIEW and VISION module, developed by NI company. In this system, several functions are implemented, such as image importing, image smoothing, gray image binaryzation, the separation of mesh mark and gear teeth surface based on morphological filter, and the calculation of characteristic parameters of gearing mesh mark. On shape and contour of mesh mark between pre-and post separation, the improvement shows that the method has obvious separation effect.The mesh mark image processing system, designed in this paper, performs the advance function besides of the mesh mark image acquisition. The parameters, extracted by the system, provide a way with new evaluation parameters for the main reducer assembly quality. It is valuable to the reality monitoring system to ensure quality.
