In recent years, the State focuses on the establishment of Smart Grid. Meanwhile, it invests heavily in the western hydropower development, and implement the "Western power transfer to eastern area" policy.With the hope to improve the whole grid, the state also focusXX on the establishment of special high-voltage AC and DC transmission lines .Under this circumstances, the security of power system must be paid highly attention to,and the power system is stable or not directly related to the stability of the national economy and many other aspects.For the power system itself, with the continuous expansion of its scale and the interconnection of large area power grid, the complexity of the grid increase quickly;At the same time, the high-power devices are led in the power system and large capacity transmission methods begin to germinate, they are making the dynamic behavior of the system more Complex; Thirdly ,the power system is widespread ,and a great deal of the components are running under the system, if the grid works out of order ,it will bring about large sphere of influence; Moreover, the dynamic process of power system is fast and the system information transmission speed is relatively slow, so that power system protection and control can only rely on local information, it is difficult to achieve great area coordination .Therefore, how to achieve real-time, accurate monitoring of the power system's operating conditions have the great value of research. Address these issues, the Power System Synchronization Phasor Measurement Unit is a better solution.This paper is based on the wide area measurement system (WAMS).On the basis of in-depth analysis to the the current situation of this project, we have designed the PMU which is based on ARM, DSP, and FPGA these three core units. In this system, DSP is used as data acquisition unit, ARM is used as Ethernet-based data processing and transmission unit, FPGA is used as synchronous clock unit.In order to achieve the Synchronous acquisition function, we designed the synchronous clock source which is based on GPS; For the power system ,dynamic monitoring will create Large volume of data ,and it have the high demand of real-time communication ,the PMU uses the Ethernet as the Communication way ;At the same time, we provide the USB interface as the storage medium for the Large amounts of data's analysis .By combining the three point ,we can realize the synchronization acquisition, real-time processing, local storage, remote communication and other functions.
