Rapid economic developing has led to the rapid expansion of city size. The situation, that various passenger flow, logistics and private car are increasing, makes urban traffic congested. Traffic congestion, traffic pollution and energy consumption have become an illness for all cities. With the establishment of strategies for public bus priority, bus transportation will play an important role to solve traffic congestion, and become an important means. Therefore, how to enhance scheduling control of the vehicle under the existing traffic conditions, to improve operational efficiency and the quality of service have become a problem that must be solved urgently. At present, intelligent urban public transport system has become an important subsystem of ITS (Intelligent Transport System).Through consulting amount of literatures and integrating the research result at home and abroad, according to the requirements of intelligent public bus dispatch system, this paper researches the public bus vehicle equipment and presents a system design scheme. By analyzing the functional requirements and performance requirements of the intelligent public bus vehicle equipment, what function and performance the vehicle equipment should have is cleared. Through analyzing the performance of various components on the market, the technical solutions is determined, which is that taking the single-chip C8051F040 as control center and combining with GPS, GPRS and voice technique. The design of intelligent public bus vehicle equipment is described in detail from both the hardware and software and also a specific connection schematic diagram is given as well as device initialization process and the software implementation process.The device can transform the real time information to the dispatch center, such as longitude, latitude, speed, direction etc, and also can implement some functions, such as automatic sound station, fault alarming etc. The equipment can meet the dispatch center to monitor and control the public bus. At present, the device has been tested in the laboratory, and has lots of features such as high stability, low power, data processing fast, using easily etc. Because the physical environment is different from the laboratory environment greatly, before the device is used in practice, there are many issues to consider, such as vibration, power stability and so on.
