Researching on bamboo morphology characteristics and growth distribution on overground parts, establishing a computer simulation model, achieving its three-dimensional simulation are the basic task, which provide technical support and new methods for the numeral forestry and erosion control and slope protection.At the conclusion of the growth and development of bamboo on the ground rules,it analyzes the various organs of bamboo geometry of the main characteristics and growth characteristics on the basis of the combination of experimental methods and image processing methods. Various organs of bamboo on the ground part are described in the geometry model and the growth modeling methods, including bamboo shoots, young bamboo and bamboo leaves and branches. Taking example of bamboo (kanadake), the geometric model and the main control parameters of bamboo growth are extracted, which include including shoot-breaking high, first branching height, culm node number, branch node number,culm spacing, branch spacing, the number of branches, the number of each sub-side leaves, as well as control parameters of the spatial distribution of leaf morphology. Logistic growth equation,calculated through the measured values in line with the growth of bamboo.Diameter at breast height (1/10 height) and the relationship between leaves long axis and short axis ratio are changed with growing of bamboo, these laws are analyzed and concluded through observation. As the example of bamboo leaves, using the method of image process extracts the parameters of morphology control. It summed up the growth and development law of bamboo on the ground part, analysis the external morphology and the growth characteristics of bamboo, which is provide the basis for the geometry modeling and growth modeling.According to modeling method above and observations and experimental data, a bamboo growing simulation model has been built, with the data structure model given and algorithm initially programmed. Use VC++6.0 for the software development platform, combined with OpenGL 3D graphics development tools, through system interface inputting control parameters, such as stalk-height, a total number of bamboo internode, bamboo-breaking time, then the simulation begin. The software procedures system can realize the three-dimensional dynamic display about overground part of bamboo growth. Simulation process and results more in line with the growth of actual state of bamboo.It shows that the establishment of the simulation system is effective. In this paper, the growth of modeling and simulation method has good universality, which can be extended to other parts of bamboo growth simulation on the ground. The research carried out is laid the foundation for simulation of the next step on the growth of bamboo.
