For a long time, soil erosion has caused some environmental issues, such as the upper incisions and fragmentations, natural vegetation degradations, bio-diversity destructions, soil quality drops, ecological deteriorations, etc. Soil erosion has caused great economic losses, so it is necessary to estimate economic losses caused by soil erosion independently. However, it is rare to take soil erosion as one independent ecological disruptive phenomenon to estimate economic losses at present, even the existing studies of economic losses caused by soil erosion are included in partial losses of some ecological disruptions, such as forests, farmlands, meadows, etc. This can't meet the needs for China to realize sustainable development and scientific resources management extremely. The significances to carry on estimation of economic losses caused by soil erosion are for the following several points:Firstly, help for improving people's consciousness of defending soil erosion. Quantitative estimation of economic losses caused by soil erosion can make people realize the threats and harms to both human society and natural environment and it can also help to improve people's self-knowledge and go-aheadism to prevent and cure soil erosion.Secondly, help for adjusting social and economic development aims in order to achieve sustainable development. Estimating economic losses caused by soil erosion as an independent ecological disruptive phenomenon is of great value to adjust local economic strategies.Thirdly, help for carrying on the work of the preventing and controlling soil erosion. In China, quantitative loss figures and amounts of money is sometimes much more powerful to persuade authorities at all levels in paying more attention to soil erosion. In order to reduce losses caused by soil erosion to the maximum extent, we should combine ecological economy estimation caused by soil erosion with relevant technology assessment and set up statistical system in this respect. Scientific estimation on economic losses caused by soil erosion is favorable for deciding earlier and taking effective measures earlier.
