Studies on the effects of Ca2+ and GA3 in raising anthocyanin content of Anthurium(Anthurium andraeanum Lind.)Supervisor Professor: Cai Shiying Zhou Qianping Postgraduate : Xia Chunhua(College of Horticulture, South China University of Tropical Agriculture)Abstract Relation between the decrease of anthocyanin content of Anthurium andraeanum and climate factors, and the efficient methods of improving cut flower quality under unsuitable condition were discussed, and the regulation mechanism for them was expounded as well in terms of the theory of the regulation of Ca2+-CaM messenger system to the metabolism. The results show that the main confine factor resulting in the decrease of Anthurium anthocyanin content is poor light. Whereas the Anthurium quality has significantly improved under poor light after treatment with 5. 4 mmol CaCl2/L or 1. 16 mmol GA:I/L, or their combined contents. The mechanism may be that GA:i acting as 'first' intracellular messenger can increase cellular Ca2+absorption as a result, Ca2+ promotes the intracellular sugar accumulation providing the synthesis medium for anthocyanin, and also raises the content of CaM. As Ca2+binds with CaM and activates CaM, the 'second' intracellular messenger system is stimulated resulting in the increase of Phenylalnine Ammonia-Lyase (PAL) of which the effects may happen at the transport level. Above metabolism procedure is advantage for that the anthocyanin synthesis pathway works normally, the anthocyanin content increase and finally the cut flower quality of Anthurium is improved.
