In this paper, biomass of the major forest types and hydrologic features were studied in small watershed, aiming at soil and water conservation of Yangtze River. The study may provide basic and important data for three main benefit assessments (ecological benefit, social benefit, and economic benefit) of protection forest system project in Yangtze River. At the same time, this study important for the foundation and consummation of protection forest system in Dabie Mountains.According to domestic and abroad researches and the feature of test regions and intention of research, an experimental investigation was conducted to get enough data. This investigation applied the method of combining quantity and quality to study distribution laws of tree stratum biomass, undergrowth biomass, descending axis and litter fall. First, test plots were set up in the major forest types of test regions, and factors of the test plots were record. Then, biomass of average tree and dominant tree in each group were measured. The distributions of rainfall affected by leaf canopy, litter fall and descending axis were also study as follows: First, representative standing forests were selected in the test regions, and then observe rainfall out of the forest, seepage flow in the forest and stem flow quantity. After analyzing the data, biomass and hydrologic features were expressed by the form of graph. The results show that soil and water conservation forest gives its maximal benefit after definite age.
