Medicinal Plants In Seed Morphology And Storage Characteristics

Germplasm resources of medicinal plants are rich in species in our country,but its study started later than crops,especially the study of medicinal plant seeds' biological characteristics and storage characteristics was seldom,and research of many species are still blank.Medicinal plant seeds are the foundation of medicinal materials production,their characteristics determine the characters of next generation. The seed qualities directly affect medicinal materials production potentiality.So development of medicinal plant seeds biological characteristics study have significant meaning to improving and steading medicinal materials production' quality,also to selecting better germplasm resources of medicinal plants and the long term storage of germplasm resources.Therefore this paper studied several kinds of medicinal plant seeds from their morphological identification,germination characteristics and storage characteristics,in order to provide basis for related studies like storage characteristics of medicinal plant seeds.This paper consisted of three chapters:The first chapter:the research survey of medicinal plant seeds biological characteristics and storage characteristicsGermplasm resources of medicinal plants are rich in species.Because of genetic and habitat reason,seeds generated different morphology,and certain special structure caused different dormancy type.Germination characteristics are different, also the lifetime of the seeds.Mastering the biological characteristics is the basic link of germplasm resources of medicinal plants mid long term storage.The task of seeds storage is to control artificially the condition of storage by reasonable facilities and advanced scientific technology,decreased the seed deterioration to the minimum,keep the germination ability and vigor effectively to ensure sowing value of seeds.Mid long term storage of medicinal plant seeds is the main form and way of storage and continuation for germplasm resources medicinal plants,especially the precious varieties.But until now the study have not been systematic and completed,awaits the efforts of the late comer.In the basis of investigating the medicinal plant seeds biological characteristics,study of appropriate storage method of seeds have theoretical and practical significance for mid long term storage of germplasm resources of medicinal plants,especially the precious varieties,also for the national biological resources security and realizing sustainable development.The second part:the study on medicinal plant seeds morphological characteristicsThe morphological identification of medicinal plant seeds directly related to standard planting of chinese medicinal materials and the study of genuine medicinal materials.Medicinal plant seeds can be identified by observing sharp,size,color, surface texture and hilum etc.Also SEM can be used to observing the characteristics of omamentation of testa and hilum in order to identify seeds,reflect the morphological characteristics of seeds objectively and exactly.The third chapter:the study on medicinal plant seeds storage characteristicsThis chapter consisted of tow parts,the first part is the study on germination characteristics of medicinal plant seeds:we studied the germination characteristics eghit medicinal plant seeds in this part,including effect of temperature on the germination of medicinal plant seeds,method of breaking seeds dormancy, comparison of germination characteristics among different producing areas and the effect of stress on germination characteristics etc.The second part is the study on medicinal plant seeds storage characteristics:in this part,we choose four kind of medicinal plant seeds as object,study the four temperature effect on the seeds' germination rate,cell membrane permeability,protective enzyme activity biochemical and physiological characteristics,and primarily studied effect of different water content on seeds storage characteristics,provide theoretical basis for the storage characteristics of medicinal plant seeds.The results are as follows:1,This paper systemly biological characteristics of medicinal plant seeds from morphological characteristics,germination characteristics,dormancy characteristics and storage characteristics of medicinal plant seeds such as Trollius chinensis Bge., Rabdosia rubescens(Hemsl.)Hara.,Schizonepeta tenuifolia Briq.,and Astragalus membranaceus(Fish.).provided basis for related studies.2,The study of storage characteristics in medicinal plant seeds was the weak segment of the study in germplasm resources of medicinal plants,this paper studied the storage characteristics of medicinal plant seeds including Trollius chinensis Bge., Rabdosia rubescens(Hemsl.)Hara.,Schizonepeta tenuifolia Briq.,and Astragalus membranaceus(Fish.).for the first time,provided foundation for the studies of mid and long term storage.3,The paper observed the seeds of Trollius chinensis Bge.,Achyranthes bidentata BI.,Soutellaria baicalensis Georgi,Rabdosia rubescens(Hemsl.) Hara., Gardenia jasminoides Ellis,Magnolia officinalis Rehd.et Wils.,and Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.by SEM method for the first time.The basic identification points of the seeds were summaried as the therotical basis for morphological characteristics identification.Meanwhile,we studied the relationship between medicinal plant seeds morphological characteristics and germination characteristics,providing reference for the reaserch of medicinal plant seeds biological characteristics.4,The paper got the method of breaking the dormancy characteristics of seeds of Trollius chinensis Bge..The process shortened the time compared with the past method,providing basis for the planting of Trollius chinensis Bge..Besides,the paper summaried the best germination temperature of Rabdosia rubescens(Hemsl.) Hara.,Astragalus membranaceus(Fish.).etc,and explored the PEG influence on the germination of Soutellaria baicalensis Georgi seeds,providing basis of selecting better anti-drought spices.
